Indiana University Communications regularly accommodates media requests for live, on-camera or audio-only, faculty interviews - by utilizing existing broadcast standard HD studio facilities on the Bloomington campus. HD Broadcast level studio facilities are provided at no cost to broadcast outlets. IU Bloomington and its IU-Radio/Television Services (RTVS) unit, offers technical coordination assistance.
For broadcast television: IU-RTVS offers a single HD camera “headshot” broadcast television studio facility with IFB and microphone, complete with HD 1080i fiber transmission (2-way). The fiber transmission path is from the IU-RTVS master control (on the Bloomington campus), to sister PBS affiliate WFYI-Indianapolis. WFYI can turnaround fiber transmission to “The Switch” for outbound worldwide reach. Requesting broadcast networks are responsible for directly coordinating transmission path turnaround with WFYI-Indianapolis and “The Switch,” including any associated fees.
Note: IU-RTVS also maintains SD fiber transmission (1-way only) from its master control to the four network commercial broadcast television stations in downtown Indianapolis.
For IP-based Skype interviews: IU-RTVS offers a single HD camera Skype interview capability, with IFB and microphone, from the same “headshot” studio.
For broadcast audio-only: IU-RTVS offers audio-only interview capability from either its “headshot” studio or from NPR radio affiliate station WFIU (on the Bloomington campus). Transmission is via ISDN connection. More details are available upon request.
